Marcel and Aleta are British and US Citizens who have lived in the USA for 18 years. We come from Northamptonshire in the UK and have lived in Singapore for 6 years, in New Hampshire (USA) for 4 years and now in Florida (USA) for the past 15 years. 

 

We have just recently semi-retired (at 56 and 59). We have looked at house/pet sitting for a number of years, but work has kept us from taking up an opportunity. Now we are in a position to try these new experiences. I was a Vice President for a Computer company for over 37 years and have recently left that for a quieter semi-retirement life. Aleta had a very prosperous vacation rental property business and a real estate business, she continues some real estate work when she is in Florida. This part-time business will not keep us from taking on a medium to longer term house/pet sit.

 

We love traveling, we have traveled as a family with our, now grown up, daughters and Marcel has traveled to many countries on business. We have a great deal of knowledge and understanding of many different countries and cultures and enjoy their diversity and uniqueness. We learned to sail a few years ago and have sailed a 38-foot yacht in Greece, the British Virgin Islands and Florida - always looking for an adventure.

 

Aleta and I are very meticulous when it comes to maintaining our own property and our beach rental property. We managed our own cleaning, bookings, provided all guest services and conducted all our home maintenance. We are very clean and detail-oriented people and can adapt to almost any situation; many years of traveling the world have helped us with adapting to situations as they occur, and we have an adventurous and positive attitude. We enjoy challenges and have a ‘can do’ attitude. We are both excellent cooks, I have a small Private Chef business, providing dinners for small to medium groups when at home. We bake bread, make everything from scratch, and only eat healthy, unprocessed food. We love experimenting with different local produce.

 

I have a small handyman business that keeps me busy, again when in Florida. I have built kitchens, bathrooms, installed tile backsplashes, tiled bathroom wall and bathroom floors, I have laid many types of flooring, including solid wood, bamboo, laminate and can tackle basic plumbing, electrical work and most other handyman (honey-do-list) type jobs that may come along.

 

We are not professional gardeners but have maintained our own 2 acre garden in the USA when we first moved over here. We then moved to Florida and again maintained a fairly sizeable garden all year-round in 90 degree temperatures. Along with maintaining our own Pool and Spa. Neither Aleta or I are afraid of hard work and getting our hands dirty.

 

With regard to pets, we have had pets in the past, especially when our children were at home. Dogs, Cats, Chickens, Rabbits. One of our daughters was a keen horse rider so we are familiar with horses although we have never owned our own.

 

We regard ourselves as being reasonably healthy and fit (as do our doctors). I cycle 80-100 miles per week on a road bike and Aleta does Yoga and attends an exercise class 3 days per week. We walk anything from 4-12 miles a day if we are traveling and sightseeing or just want to get out for some fresh air. We have no major ailments and are always active. We eat a very healthy diet with everything cooked from fresh produce, nothing deep fried and we only use healthy oils.

 

We love Europe, my father was French and we have spent many vacations in the North West, around Rouen and Paris and in the Cote D'Azure. Our French language skills are average but improve quickly when we are speaking it more consistently.

 

We learn very quickly and we are both willing to put in whatever effort is required to make whatever challenge we take on a success.

 

The past few years we have started planning where we might eventually retire. Places currently on our list are South and Central America, Parts of Europe with short spells of time at our apartment in Florida.
