I am a 73 year old, retired, single woman, a nonsmoker with no pets of my own. I have been housesitting since August, 2013. My housesitting experience includes:
Norwalk, CT (Jan. - Feb., 2015)
Wheeling, W. Va. (Nov. - Dec., 2014)
Birmingham, AL (Oct., 2014; March 17 - May 12, 2015)
Austin, TX (Aug. - Sept., 2014)
Elgin, IL (Aug., 2013 - July, 2014)
Cookeville, TN (July, 2013; August, 2023; August, 2024)
Fredericksburg, TX (July, 2011)
Minneapolis, MN (2013)
Leiper's Fork, TN (various dates, 2021 - 2025)
I first began housesitting in 2013. I housesat fulltime, moving from job to job, for two years (2014 - 2016) and then settled in Tucson, AZ for two years (2016 - 2018). I moved to Nashville in late 2018 to be closer to family. I stopped hosuesitting during the Covid shutdown and its aftermath (2019 - 2020). In late 2020, I was hired to work a Covid-related, part-time position at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) in Nashville. I thought the position might last six months; I was there for four and a half years (January, 2021 - June, 2025).
While living in Nashville and working at VUMC, I took on short-term housesits in central Tennessee. It was a great way to meet people and experience the beauty of this state, and along the way I've made some new and enduring friendships.
I'm still living in Nashville and I will keep this as my home base, but my position at VUMC has ended and I'd like to take on some longer and more far-ranging housesitting jobs again.
I prefer longer housesits (2 months - 1 year). I'm not tied to any particular geographic location; I love exploring new areas, and I'm willing to travel anywhere in the United States or beyond for the right opening. I am familiar with extreme weather (Minnesota in the winter, Texas in the summer), and know what those conditions entail when caring for buildings and pets.
I have references. The most recent ones are from jobs here in Tennessee, but I can reach out to some of my earlier jobs if you need to hear from them. Please email me with your interest, and we'll discuss what you need.
Before beginning life as a virtual nomad, I lived in Minneapolis, MN, for twenty-four years. I worked as an interior designer, and I owned, first, a house, and, then, two different condos. I did extensive remodeling on all three properties. I understand the value of taking good care of a home, and I'm comfortable troubleshooting any situations that may arise.
I've had pets of my own (fish, birds, and a cat). I've housesat large dogs (boxers, Great Pyrenees), small dogs (Llaso Apso, Shih Tzu), cats, goats, guinea hens, and chickens. I am most familiar with caring for dogs and cats, but I'm willing to explore the possibility of caring for other types of pets as well.
Some of my housesitting jobs have involved caring for gardens. I don't mow lawns (simply no experience in this area, and lawns can be tricky), but I am comfortable watering, weeding flower beds, caring for potted plants, and supervising a lawn care service.
My goal is always to leave your property looking as good as or better than when you left, and to leave your pets contented and happy.
I hope this introduces you to who I am! I look forward to talking to you about your housesitting needs. We can start with email, and move on to a telephone conversation, if that's what meets your needs.
All the best,
Jesse Sia
