My name is Melissa and I’m an RN, a bird nerd, an animal lover and an explorer. I love house sitting because it gives me a way to have totally novel experiences, whether it’s across the world or right in my own back yard. I love pet sitting because spending time with animals is the single greatest gift I can get myself as far as quality of life enhancement. Because I’m currently working as a travel nurse and I tend to live in one community for less than a year at a time, it doesn’t seem fair for me to have animals of my own at this time in my life, so helping other people care for their animals while they travel has been a mutually beneficial set up. I work about eight hours a day, so if there are pets in the house that need more frequent care, I might not be the best fit unless a supplemental dog walker/check in could be arranged while I’m at work. I started my first pet- and house-sitting job when I was 19 and have been doing so off and on over the last 40 years for private clients and clients from Care.com (a care-giving website). I've had jobs in Massachusetts, Virginia, Florida and California and sometimes flew or drove out-of-state to do so. I've also worked as a live-in elder-caregiver and took care of my clients' pets and houses as part of the job.
