I am originally from Germany, but have been living in Canada for 20+ years. I have been living on this farm and operating it as a grazing operation for the past 10 years. The farm is nestled in the beautiful Ottawa Valley, right where the rich farmlands of the valley give way to the laurentian shield. The southern part of the farm is mostly pasture, with the northern part reaching into more rocky terrain that is typical for the laurentians. The land borders Long Lake with beautiful emerald water, that can be used for swimming etc. Gatineau park is just a few miles east, and Ottawa/Gatineau is approx. 80 km away... )(swimming is obviously not applicable to this particular stay - except, if you like to do (ice-) cold plunges :-D
In this great region, there many opportunities to experience beautiful nature, and rich culture. Ranging from visiting waterfalls, hiking, canoeing, and rafting May to November, to snow shoeing, x-country skiing (downhill too) snowmobiling and skating in the winter, there are many ways to enjoy this unique part of Canada. If your thing is rather cultural, there are arts exhibitions, music shows (to watch and some to participate) all around to enjoy.
Close by Shawville has everything you need, like restaurants, cafes, a Hospital, grocery & hardware stores, and Canada's capital Ottawa is only an hour away.
There is regular snow removal for the driveway and parking space, the porch and walkway need to be cleared of snow by hand however. In terms of pet care, if you are interested, you could take care of the chickens. As explained elsewhere, the animal care is not a requirement for you to come. If you do take care of the chickens, you would have fresh eggs daily to enjoy. Care would include ensuring they have adequate water and feed, collecting and cleaning eggs daily, and possibly some mucking out of the chicken coop. The chicken care is not a requirement for your stay, but you would need to decide beforehand whether or not you would want to commit to it. |
