We are Nicolai and Iryna, an active retired couple from Canada. We lived and worked in Canada for 35 years and recently relocated to Italy. We are looking for a long-term (open-ended, negotiable) house-sitting / caretaking arrangement specifically for a villa (not an apartment) on the coast between Ventimiglia and Viareggio, in exchange for taking care of the villa, garden, and pool. About usNicolai worked for 30 years as an Avionics Specialist at Bombardier Inc., one of the world's leading aerospace companies — a role that demanded precision, technical rigor, and full responsibility for the safety and reliability of complex systems. This translates directly into careful, methodical upkeep of a property's technical systems (pool equipment, irrigation, electrical, HVAC). Nicolai has 40 years of driving experience with a clean record — no accidents, no tickets — so the owners' vehicles can be safely used and maintained if needed (moving cars, errands, airport pickups). We owned our own home in Montreal with a garden and swimming pool for many years (see photos below), so we know exactly what's involved in maintaining both — watering, planting, seasonal pruning, pool chemistry and cleaning, basic house system checks. We are calm, reliable, health-conscious, and detail-oriented. Neither of us smokes. We love the sea, mountains, gardens, and travel — this is a lifestyle choice for us, not a temporary stay. Iryna, former Airlines Customer Service Manager (Toronto Airport), is an excellent cook and creates a warm, welcoming home atmosphere — happy to help host guests or family when the owners visit. We speak English, French, Russian, and Ukrainian fluently, and are currently learning Italian.
