My name is Karen and I have been a pet and home sitter for over 10 years, most recently last month, and can provide references. I've always had a passion for animals, wildlife and nature. During my career in nature conservation I have had many pets, mainly dogs, cats and horses, and have been fortunate to have raised wild orphaned animals including cheetahs, a serval cat and a mongoose - all baby orphans. I've turned this love of animals into an opportunity to petsit and housesit all over the world, from England to Spain to Italy . I have an adult daughter who is American and currently lives in Florida. I've only been on this site for a month, which is why my experience list 1 month rather than 10 years.

I am only too happy to provide a reference for Karen for the three weeks she spent at our home looking after Jeffrey, our Sprocker Spaniel - the love of our lives.

We had to engage a house sitter as we had formerly had a problem when we took Jeff to the kennels, when he wasn’t able to cope after his companion died. Karen came to me on the commendation of her friend who could no longer do our sit.

She came to see us a few weeks earlier to familiarise herself with what was needed and get to know Jeff, who obviously loved her straight away. She then arrived to take over the night before we left in the early hours for our holiday.

Karen stayed in our home with Jeff for three weeks, during which time, she took Jeff out twice a day as we’d asked her, walking locally and also occasionally taking him out in her car to a big park - an experience that he had always enjoyed.

During her stay in September 2025 Jeffrey was already suffering from breathing difficulties and on one occasion took him to the vet which, I had said she should do if there was any problem, and followed the vet’s instructions perfectly.

Jeffrey obviously thought he was as spoilt by Karen as he was used to normally, in fact I’m not sure if he was that happy to see us on our return! We were glad to return to a happy and now healthy Spaniel, and to a clean house and garden that had been watered in that hot late summer.

Unfortunately, Jeffrey is no longer with us, otherwise I would have without hesitation invited Karen to come to pet sit again.

My 4 cats (Doris, Cyril, Wilbur and Ash) loved Karen and she took excellent care of them, going far above and beyond what was necessary to keep them safe and happy.

My house was well looked after in that time and she got on very well with all my staff working in the house.

I was thrilled and very lucky to have Karen as a house sitter and very sad when she left Botswana and was no longer available.
