Hello!
I’m Suzanne, an experienced home and property steward, animal lover, remote professional, and longtime traveler who genuinely enjoys caring for the places entrusted to me.
Before beginning my current house-sitting travels, I spent 6.5 consecutive years living on-site in property-care roles. For five years, I was Guardian of an 1893 Victorian mansion in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts, caring for the historic home on its 83 wooded acres. My responsibilities included daily security checks, coordinating contractors, overseeing seasonal needs and guest turnovers, and overseeing the many details involved in caring for a significant property.
I then spent 18 months as Guardian of a nonprofit organization’s housing and office complex, where I handled daily property rounds, mail and packages, visiting faculty and unexpected situations as they arose.
Since beginning this new chapter of traveling and house sitting, I have cared for a variety of homes and pets and have received 5-star reviews from each of my sits through TrustedHousesitters. I’m comfortable caring for contemporary and historic homes, pools, gardens and plants, and I particularly enjoy longer assignments that allow me to settle into the rhythms of a home and community.
Animals have also been part of my life since childhood. I grew up on hobby farms in Australia with dogs, cats, horses, cows, chickens, pigs and exotic birds. My family bred Persian cats and exotic birds, so animal care—including administering medications when needed—became familiar to me early in life. I bring warmth, attentiveness and respect for each animal’s individual personality and routine.
Professionally, I spent 33 years working with an international nonprofit autism organization, including many years teaching and supporting individuals and families. I now have my own professional practice and work primarily online from home. As a result, I’m present at the property much of the day—something that works particularly well for both home stewardship and animal companionship.
My lifestyle is peaceful and health-conscious. I’m a non-smoker and non-drinker, naturally tidy, and do not party or bring guests into a home without the homeowner’s prior agreement. I value clear, direct communication and am comfortable handling unexpected situations calmly and coordinating with service providers when necessary.
Outside of work, I love nature, swimming and being near water, painting, dancing, travel and experiencing different cultures. One of my favorite ways to discover a new place is through its local food—especially fresh, organic and farm-to-table offerings.
What I value most about house sitting is the opportunity to become a temporary steward of a home rather than simply occupy it. I enjoy learning how a property works, caring attentively for its particular needs, and creating a peaceful, clean and welcoming environment throughout my stay.
I’m especially interested in longer-term house sits of several weeks to several months and am open to opportunities both within the United States and internationally.
Excellent references from my long-term property-guardian positions and 5-star house-sitting reviews are available, and I’m always happy to have a conversation first to explore whether we’re a good mutual fit.
Thank you for considering me to care for your home and, when applicable, your beloved animals.
Warmly,
Suzanne |
