About Cyndy Baskin: |
I am a recently retired social work professor who continues to keep my foot in this field through occasional research, writing and developing and delivering online workshops. I enjoy reading, movies, travelling and visiting my family, particularly my 5 grandsons. I now have plenty of time available and so have been travelling most of the past 2 years with an eye out for countries that I might like to spend 6 months out of the year living in. I have become quite the traveller and explorer and love learning about people, cultures and histories. I have been fortunate in the past to visit many countries in Europe, North and South America and the Caribbean and now am particularly interested in New Zealand, Australia and Asia, but certainly more of these other places as well. I am interested in house and pet sitting since I do not have as high an income as I used to and really enjoy exploring places, gardening and hanging out with pets. I have had pets my entire life, except since I retired as I travel a lot, particularly dogs and cats, the latest being a Beagle named Charlie and a black and gold cat named Mystery, who were with me from birth to passing on, and enjoy hanging out with my family members’ and friends’ pets. I have been living in a condo for the past several years and do miss having my hands in the earth through gardening when I lived in houses. I find gardening and pets calming and relaxing. I am meticulous, neat, tidy, clean, quiet, highly responsible, energetic, curious, enjoy my own company, but also fun and interesting which anyone who knows me will attest to. I consistently expressed these characteristics in the care of my homes and will naturally bring all of these into house and pet sitting. Over the years, I have house sat for several friends, family members and acquaintances who chose me for these reasons. I also rent many places in my travels such as cottages and condos as well as homes via and have always gotten a 5-star review of my behaviour as the ideal tenant. Do see my many reference letters from both people I have worked for/with and those I have house and pet sat for. PLEASE NOTE: I AM AVAILABLE MID-DECEMBER 2026 TO MID-JUNE 2027. |

Re: Reference Letter for Dr. Cyndy Baskin
I have had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Cyndy Baskin since 2001 when she joined the School of Social Work at Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto, Ontario Canada as an Assistant Professor where I was already one of the professors. I retired from the University several years before Dr. Baskin, but we have stayed in contact as indicated below.
I first grew to know Cyndy as a colleague who was consistently collegial, helpful, respectful, and willing to share her knowledge and expertise particularly in the profession of social work with Indigneous Peoples. Later, she joined a research project team I was on regarding food security with Indigneous Peoples in Brazil. In this project, our interaction grew closer since we worked together in several components, including traveling to Brazil where Cyndy was instrumental in our development of relationships with a group of Indigenous Peoples living in a remote area. The village’s members took to Cyndy immediately, sharing information about themselves with her, asking about her experiences as an Indigenous person in Canada, had her join in their singing and dancing and bestowed cherished ceremonial gifts on her. Due to her authenticity and amazing ability to build strong relationships with the group, the team’s research work was welcomed, and we worked together for the next several years.
Some of the village’s representatives also visited Toronto during the research process and here Dr. Baskin’s extreme generosity was in evidence. She hosted them throughout their stay and introduced them to Indigenous peoples both in Toronto and from her own Indigenous community in eastern Canada. She also took them to gatherings where they were publicly acknowledged by the organizers and traveled with them around the city to various Indigenous organizations and sites relevant to food security.
Later in years, during a research leave for me, Cyndy became a house sitter for my four-story home in Toronto. This was a very fortunate experience. Each time we returned home from a trip, our home was clean, tidy, and well cared for. In addition to the house itself, she was also in charge of taking care of the back and front yard. In the spring and summer months, she maintained the outside spaces through light gardening and cleaning of debris. In the winter months, she maintained the walkway free of snow
2
and ice. We never worried about our home when Cyndy was taking care of it, which was always a huge relief. She will always be our number one choice for taking on this role.
Dr. Baskin's responsibility and reliability have wholeheartedly earned my full confidence, and I am certain that she would be an excellent choice to care for your home and pets.
I have no hesitation in recommending her for this important work.
Please contact me should you require any further information or would like to discuss further our experience with Dr. Cyndy Baskin.
Sincerely,
Dr. Iara Lessa

The following is a reference letter for Dr. Cyndy Baskin in the capacity of a house and pet sitter. I am the Executive Director of Safeguards Training for Children and Adult Services, located in
Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada which delivers training to a wide variety of social service and health
care professionals across Canada. Dr. Baskin has been one of our trainers since 2016. Even though she retired from her position as an Associate Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University in 2023, she has continued to work with us delivering important training on trauma informed, culturally safe services for Indigenous Peoples. There are very few trainers with her expertise, and she is thus much in demand.
Dr. Baskin is a dream to work with. She consistently makes herself available to meet our needs, responds in a timely manner, is cooperative and well liked by staff. Her evaluations submitted by workshop participants are always excellent and she is viewed as extremely caring, knowledgeable and attentive to all. She creates a welcoming safe space for participants which is important given the training topics can be challenging for some. She always goes out of her way to customize training in a timely way when it is for a specific organization with unique training needs. I believe these are important characteristics easily transferable to the care of homes and pets.
I have no doubt that Dr. Baskin will make a wonderful sitter wherever she may travel. I highly recommend her.

I have house and pet sat for Ms. Avalos and her family for many years from 2013 to 2025. In addition to the typical tasks of caring for a home such as keeping it clean, ensuring everything is in working order and being present so it is clear that the house is not empty, I also did some gardening during the summer months when I was there and snow shoveling the verandah and front walkway in the winter months. In addition, I had the honour of caring for the family pets, Diablo, and before him, Danny, which included feeding and watering them, keeping them clean, taking them for walks, playing with them and keeping them company. Ms. Avalos's reference letter follows.

Please accept this as a reference letter for Dr. Cyndy Baskin's application to house and pet sit.
I have had the honour of knowing Cyndy for close to four decades, first as a colleague at an Indigenous child and family services agency in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where I was her supervisor, later as a part-time instructor at Toronto Metropolitan University where Cyndy was a professor who helped me get this position and supervised me, and finally as someone who has stayed at my home, both during times when I am present and other times when I am away with my family.
During her time in my large three-story home with a backyard and front verandah and walkway, my much-loved dog, Diablo, Cyndy provided excellent care for both and is also much liked by my adult children and grandchildren. She is trustworthy and dependable, and her natural kindness toward animals is truly remarkable, as evidenced by how close Diablo has come to her. He waits for her to return when she leaves, immediately greets her whenever she enters the house, pesters her to play ball with him and loves being in her bedroom hanging out with her.
Dr. Baskin's responsibility and reliability have earned my full confidence, both in the care of my home and of Diablo. Everything in the house is clean, tidy and in order and Diablo is happy when we return from a trip. As a guest, she is the easiest person to get along with, one barely notices she is there.
I have no doubt that Cyndy would be an excellent choice to care for your pets and home. This reference comes with my confirmation of her integrity, compassion, and excellent skills as a caregiver. Entrusting someone with the care of both your home and pets is an important responsibility and I highly recommend Cyndy for this work.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance to Dr. Baskin's application.

To Whom It May Concern:
Please accept this letter as a reference for Dr. Cyndy Baskin regarding her application to house and pet sit.
Cyndy has been renting the basement unit of my home in a small southern Ontario town in Canada in July and September of each year since 2023. She is by far the best tenant I have ever had.
Cyndy is responsible, cooperative, clean and respectful. She takes care of everything in the unit impeccably – removing the garbage and recycling, washing dishes and tidying up.
There is barely any cleaning to be done when she leaves.
Cyndy is quiet, but friendly, adheres to all my house rules and asks for direction when she needs to. She is appreciative of everything around her, is very family oriented as it is her mother, sister and cousin that she visits while staying in my rental and greatly enjoys the outdoors such as spending time on the beach by my home.
Of utmost importance, I have a wonderful dog, named Fisher, who gets along with Cyndy like they are best friends. They greet each other immediately upon encountering one another, whether this be in the back yard, at the entrance to the unit or running into each other on the beach or during walks. In fact, Fisher loves to hang out with Cyndy in the rental unit whenever I allow it. If I cannot locate Fisher in my part of the house, I check with Cyndy to always find her talking to him, petting him, sitting with him on the couch or him blissfully sleeping on the couch or floor. Fisher even has sleep overs with Cyndy where he stays with her overnight. I have told Cyndy many times to let me know if Fisher is bothering her, but she consistently assures me she loves animals, and he is welcome to hang out with her any time. Cyndy’s compassion and kindness are genuine – Fisher cannot be fooled! I suggested to Cyndy that she investigate house and pet sitting as she would be excellent at this and have invited her to house and pet sit for me which I truly hope she will be able to in the future. This is the highest recommendation I can give as I trust her completely in my home and looking after my beloved Fisher.
Feel free to contact me should you require any further information.

Re: Reference Letter for Dr. Cyndy Baskin
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter in support of Dr. Cyndy Baskin’s application as a house and pet sitter.
I have known Cyndy for 21 years and she has house and pet sat for me for the past 10 years, at least every two years.
I have a large house as we are a family of seven and we currently have two somewhat anxious dogs whom Cyndy has known since they were puppies. Watching the house and pets is a huge responsibility and can be a significant amount of work. My children are very close to our dogs, Gregory and Gunther and are extremely careful about who is allowed to care for them.
Cyndy has become the only person we all want to house and pet sit for us. She takes excellent care of our home and our pets. Upon returning from our times away, the house is immaculate, and the dogs are happy and content. They are always glad to see Cyndy and sad to have her leave.
In the many years that I have known Cyndy, she has always had her own pets, including two cats named Mystery 1 and later Mystery 2, as well as three dogs, named Charlie, Redd and Sam. It is only since she retired and is often traveling that she made the difficult decision not to have pets. This is one of the reasons why she is interested in pet sitting as she sometimes misses having her own.
Our neighbours speak highly of Cyndy as well, assuring us that she takes great care of our house and dogs. They share that they see her pulling weeds in the back garden and taking the dogs for walks several times a day. She is quiet, courteous and appropriately friendly.
I recommend Cyndy as a house and pet sitter. You will not be disappointed.
Do contact me if I can be of any further assistance in supporting Dr. Baskin’s application to house and pet sit.
Yours truly,

Please accept this letter as a reference for Dr. Cyndy Baskin in the position of house and pet sitter.
I have known Dr. Baskin since 2001 when I was the Director of the School of Social Work at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Chair of the hiring committee when she was hired in a tenure track position in the School. There was no doubt that Ms. Baskin (she did not yet have a PhD) was the best candidate for the position which was the unanimous decision of the committee.
In the first four years of her position, Cyndy expressed incredible strength, intelligence and perseverance by completing a PhD, earning tenure and being promoted from Assistant to Associate Professor which is unprecedented. I have never seen anyone complete an entire doctoral program in such a short period of time.
During her years in the School, from 2001to 2023 when she retired, Dr. Baskin developed many needed courses, often on her own, taught a variety of topics related to the profession, participated in numerous committees and engaged in several research projects. Dr. Baskin is highly responsible, efficient, always met deadlines, went above and beyond to support students, was respectful and well liked, not only in the School, but across the University. She consistently expressed compassion and kindness to all.
Dr. Baskin, as someone that loves to travel, has ran several households and is a huge animal lover, would be an excellent house and pet sitter for anyone around the globe. I highly recommend her, and I would certainly invite her to house sit in my home and know that she would give 100% to doing this work.

To Whom It May Concern,
I met Dr. Baskin around 1995 when she was a much respected and innovative social work practitioner in Toronto, Ontario, Canada’s Indigenous community. I began to know her better when she was hired in a tenure track position to teach at Toronto Metropolitan University (T.M.U.), also in Toronto, in 2001 in the School of Social Work. Right from the beginning Dr. Baskin centered Indigenous students and took on a leadership role in creating Indigenous curriculum within/for the School of Social Work. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her commitment and advocacy to Indigenous post secondary education, creating de-colonized curriculum, mentoring Indigenous students and faculty in the School of Social Work, throughout T.M.U. and in many universities not only across Canada, but globally. Through her research, she ensured that her work benefited Indigenous communities. Furthermore, she made a commitment to hire Indigenous students and community members to work with her, many of whom have gone on to do doctoral education and are teaching in colleges and universities across Canada today. In addition, Dr. Baskin was appointed the first Chair for our Indigenous Education Council where she held this position from 2009 – 2019. During this time, she expressed exemplary leadership and commitment to Indigenous education and has left her much appreciated legacy for many to follow and build on. Re: Reference Letter for Dr. Cyndy Baskin
Our names are Sylvia Charles and Floidon Furtato and we have had the good fortune to have known Dr. Cyndy Baskin for the past year in the capacity of renters of her beautiful condominium in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Baskin’s residence was immaculate when we moved in, clean, tidy, stylishly decorated and almost brand new looking even though she had been living there for several years. We applied to rent the condominium and were thrilled when Dr. Baskin chose us to live in her home while she was travelling and visiting various family members.
She welcomed us, even including a lovely gift basket as a housewarming gift and checked in regularly to ensure we were alright and all was well with the condominium. It was clear from the beginning that she cared a great deal about her home, wanted it to be kept in good condition and intended for us to have what we needed to be comfortable living there.
Being a responsible person who adheres to details, Dr. Baskin made sure we had all the information we needed such as contact information for the building’s manager and superintendent, information on the monthly inspections that would occur in the unit including that of the fire alarms and the change of the heating and air conditioning vent, plus how to access the mail room and gym.
Over time, we noticed that a few items in the home needed replacing or repairs and when we reached Dr. Baskin, she responded immediately, purchasing a new dishwasher for the unit, and putting us in touch with professionals who could do repairs such as a crack in the floor and a burned-out light socket. Trades people are in high demand in Toronto and can be difficult to find, but Dr. Baskin was persistent in tracking them down and ensuring they got the work completed as quickly as possible.
We are pleased that Dr. Baskin has invited us to sign a rental lease for another year for her condominium and that she is not going to raise the rent.
We would describe her as caring, kind, reliable, dependable and of the highest integrity. We totally believe that she would be an excellent choice to care for your home and pets, that she will take as good care of them as she does her own home and of us as tenants. Thus, we highly recommend her for this significant role.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of any further help with Dr. Baskin’s application for house and pet sitting. We would be honoured to further support her in this endeavour.
Yours truly,
Floidon Furtado & Sylvia Charles
