had the pleasure of knowing her for over 20 years in both a professional
and personal manner.
I worked with Shelley at her consignment store for 18 years. We worked
side by side and she taught me so many things. Shelley had (and still does
have) a keen eye for design and beautiful things. That was very evident
when you stepped into her store. From fabric content and care, to window
displays, and designer labels to customer service—she knew it all! She
could identify designer clothing, fabrics, bags and scarves without seeing
the label. She knew and appreciated quality. She meticulously laundered
and mended items to bring them to ‘perfect’ condition-not afraid to tackle
delicate silks and cashmeres or take on tricky zippers; she did it all. She
would polish shoes and repair jewelry, making each and every item she sold
look its absolute best. Her window displays literally stopped people in their
tracks and she treated every customer like a friend.
Shelley’s pride in making things beautiful did not stop at her store-her
home is equally as beautiful. She has a sense of style that seems to come so
naturally for her and she is always the person I call when I need help. She
has helped me plan parties and decorate my home. She has created lovely
floral arrangements and sewn curtains for my home. Her eye for design and
beauty is an amazing gift and she is so giving of her talents.
In addition to her many talents and love of beautiful things, Shelley is a
delightful person. She has boundless energy and is a complete joy to be
around. Her genuine care and compassion for others is heartwarming and
her willingness to jump in and help without question is humbling. She holds
herself to a very high standard and she takes on everything she does with
integrity and grace. I trust Shelley with everything from my secrets to the
care of my son. I admire her both professionally and personally and I am
grateful to call her my friend.

I am writing, with the utmost confidence and pleasure, to recommend Shelley
Spargur for the position of house manager. Shelley first worked for me in my home over
30 years ago. She cleaned, organized, and did laundry for me for many years. Her
detailed cleaning could only be done by someone who actually enjoys their work.
You could see that she liked what she was doing in her attitude, but also in the ways
she would care for everything in my home. The sheets were ironed, the glassware
was polished and put away meticulously, the towels were folded and put away as if
they were origami. She made things beautiful even when they wouldn’t be seen.
That is where her character comes in. She does things the right way. Always. She
makes things beautiful even when they may not be seen. What more could you ask
for in someone caring for your home? She has a can do attitude and is never afraid
to take on a project. She is pleasant, approachable, kind, and easily works with
others, making everyone feel as though they are on the same team. Over the years
Shelley has worked for me doing organizing and gardening. Again, always
meticulous, whether she’s cleaning the garage, or polishing a chandelier. Because
that is just how she does things. Shelley would be the first person I would welcome
into my home if I were hiring for this position.

Ms. Shelley Spargur was a student of our academy during the Fall Course of 2019. She graduated
from this course with the highest ranking possible: Distinction.
At The International Butler Academy, Ms. Spargur was always willing to jump in and get the job
done. Her sense of humor kept her, and others, smiling through every task. She was often the one
to volunteer when asked, “Who would like to go first?”
Ms. Spargur is a self-starter. She opened her own clothing store at age of 25, and very successfully
managed it for over 26 years. During that time she worked in a very fast paced, and often hectic
environment with up to 15 employees. Ms. Spargur opened and managed a gift shop while her
clothing store was being managed by her assistant. Ms. Spargur thrives on being busy, and can
keep many different projects running smoothly at the same time. She can delegate, but is willing to
jump in and take on any task, and do it with a smile.
Ms. Spargur held three live in domestic jobs while in college. She has cared for children of all ages,
from infant to teenager, and has raised her own daughter to age 18. She has organized and managed
several large home renovation projects, and is completely comfortable with everyone from
contractors to decorators, plumbers to houseguests. She knows what a difference a well-organized,
and clean home can mean to a busy household. Structure and consistency at home keep everyone
feeling, and doing, their best.
Ms. Spargur is loyal, committed, and absolutely discreet. She has excellent references, and is still
remembered fondly by her employers of over 30 years ago. She has many years of working in a
private home, but still keeps her youthful energy and approach to life!

Shelley Spargur has worked for my husband and me and our canine family of three for
over five years in our residential properties in Wyoming, California and Minnesota.
Shelley is a self-starter with many talents. Mature, stabile, discreet, a willing team
player who communicates and organizes other workers in our homes with aplomb. She
unquestionable has a heart for service and has been professionally trained to carry out
a myriad of domestic and personal assistance tasks.
We personally do a significant amount of entertaining: parties of 4 to 150 people, often
with house guests on the properties. In addition, my husband has become visually
impaired over the last year. She is quick to address his particular needs.
She is a good cook, a gracious server, excellent at flower arranging and also
gardening. She is a magician at restoring soiled couture garments to their original
grandeur and can careful pack belonging for our travels. She is a superb laundress and
good with a rotary iron. Her ability to decorate our house over the holidays and carefully
unpack & repack countless holiday treasure always makes our home seem like a Winter
Wonderland!
Shelley is honest and generous. I consider her a very knowledgeable and resourceful
shopper. She is mindful of quality, yet balances purchasing with cost effectiveness.
My only regret is that we do not have a property in NYC to keep her in our employ.
