About Roger And Mary Kirchheim:

We are an adventurous, healthy, nonsmoking couple with backgrounds in construction engineering and teaching who believe that the purpose of life is to live it.

Roger has mechanical engineering degree from Pennsylvania State University. He has served as Senior Project Manager for commercial and residential construction in the New York metropolitan area. He is a skilled outdoors-man with a lifetime of camping, survival and hiking skills. He is experienced in auto mechanics, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems . Additionally, he is our family gardener. His acute attention to detail lends itself to careful and methodical daily attention to our yard, gardens and indoor plants. Recently he revived our ailing loquat tree, carefully harvested the crop and made jellies for our family and friends and neighbors

Mary has a degree in classical languages and comparative literature. She taught Latin, ancient cultures and mythology in a large regional high school where she also oversaw the student travel-exchange program. Over the course of twenty five years she has introduced her students to the cultures of Portugal, Spain, France, Great Britain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Israel, Costa Rica, Spain, andNicaragua, Mary is a Foodie. She loves to roam ferias, farmer's markets, ethnic grocery stores and specialty food stores. Her cooking skills match her passion for food and she reads cook books like novels. Mary’s favorite pastime is hiking especially along the Appalachian Trail near her home in the mountains of northern Georgia. She and Roger recently did an overnight hike of the Acatenango volcano in Guatemala to view the reoccurring eruptions on the neighboring Fuego volcano.

As a couple we have built a home from the ground up in New Jersey. renovated a mid-century home in Austin Texas, designed two homes near the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. On several projects we acted as the general contractor and did much of the work ourselves. We are able to vet and supervise contractors and laborers. We know how to trouble shoot problems and solve emergencies with calm and level heads. Both of us are take charge people who readily analyze a situation and act quickly to fix it relying on prior experience, accumulated knowledge and our own skills.

With the onset of Covid we decided to take a break a break from housesitting, move across the country, get our kids married and check off more of our bucket list travel destinations. While away we used Luxury House Sitting for our own homes and subsequently recognize what needs to be done to properly maintain a home.

We are a mature couple with years of experience with pets, homes ownership, and property management.

We are both conscientious task oriented individuals by nature who will care for your home as if it were our own.

We are are familiar with Facetime, Skype, WhatsApp, Paypal, online banking and other websites necessary for seamless travel both domestic and international.

We understand the considerable time, money, effort and emotional energy that has gone into the place where you live. We will maintain a solid presence at your home, care for your beloved animals and complete any required chores or small projects while you are away.

The Best Ever!

Roger and Mary were the housesitters you dream about. On a scale of 1-5 they met all the criteria below to a 5. They took excellent care of the animals, taking our dog on their hiking outings and took special care of our recent addition, a little adopted stray cat that hasn't yet been fully integrated. They provided frequent updates and took the initiative when things needed to be done. We would have them back every time. I could go on. I can't sing their praises enough.

Roger & Denise took care of our house and 4 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 horses for 2 weeks. The animals were all well fed and loved, and the house was exceptionally clean when we returned - something of a feat with so many critters coming in and out all day. Roger also repaired our gas grill and secured our wobbly dishwasher. When it looked like we might miss our flight home due to weather problems, they were willing to be as flexible as possible to make sure the animals weren't left in the lurch. We've had many housesitters over the past 20 years - Roger and Denise are among the best!

Roger and his wife Mary house sat for us for a month over Christmas and despite a number of unexpected problems ,a water leak ,a fault on the telephone line and a number of strikes in London they dealt with all these challenges effectively.
