Casa Feliz de Kim (Kim's Happy House) has two bedrooms, one bath, one indoor/outdoor atrium, and a large enclosed limestone patio with an 8 ft. privacy fence and a lock on the entrance gate. Casa Feliz is located less than one mile east of the University of Texas (UT) in Central East Austin. The house was converted from two barns in the 1940's and has high vaulted ceilings throughout. The interior space is 743 sq. ft. and with the high-vaulted ceilings, and two additional living areas (atrium and limestone patio) the house feels much larger and has over 1300 sq. ft. of living space. There is also one bicycle that is available to use during your stay.
Both bedrooms accommodate up to two adults each. Bedroom No. 1 has a full size bed and the bedroom No. 2 has a full size futon that can be made into a bed. There is a feather bed available that can be placed on top of the futon for sleeping; however the futon by itself is comfortable. Just a matter of preference. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans. The first bedroom’s window looks out onto the private limestone patio and does not have a curtain on the window. This may be important to know if couples are sharing the home and/or you want to sleep in late as the morning sun will shine through the bedroom window. There is a full-size inflatable mattress available for use if there is the need for more than two beds. The bathroom has a shower/bathtub. The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, dishes, Vitamix blender, submersion blender, coffee maker (automatic with a timer or a french press), coffee grinder, a gas stove and a full-size washer and dryer. The kitchen does NOT have a microwave, dishwasher, disposal or a toaster oven, and the dryer is very noisy, but it works well. There is a bar with two bar stools for eating meals inside, but there is not a dining room table inside the house; however there is plenty of space to eat on the limestone patio. The interior living area has a stereo system, including a single DVD/CD player and has speakers located inside the house, the atrium and the limestone patio. You can also hook up your mp3 player/phone to play your own tunes. There is a TV, but it is not a HDTV, and is placed in a nook, so only those sitting on the couch can watch it. I do have DIRECTTV with multiple premium channels and MLB.
The atrium has seating for six, including a hanging chair, and a 30” round low to the ground copper table. The room also has a ceiling fan, a gas stove, and two large skylights. The room has an outside wall, but is not totally enclosed, so you have a breeze, but not rain. There is an attached shed which has folding chairs if more seating is needed and a bicycle.
The outside limestone patio is surrounded with an 8 ft. privacy fence with the exception of the entrance gate and a great space for small gatherings up to 25 people. There are small white lights in the trees and lights strung along the fence, which adds a very nice ambiance at night. You will not see the street or passing cars. The limestone patio has seating for twelve, including a patio table that seats six for outdoor meals. You can pull tables together if you need a larger dining table. There is a 10 ft. cantilever patio umbrella to shield you from the heat and sun or if it is cool outside there is an outdoor fireplace (wood provided), and a patio propane table heater in the attached shed. There is NOT a charcoal or gas BBQ pit. With the two additional living spaces you can easily entertain guests, but music and outside noise must be negligible after 10 PM out of respect for my neighbors and to obey the noise ordinance, which the police will enforce even if the neighbors do not complain.
Casa Feliz in centrally located less than one mile directly east of I-35 and The University of Texas (UT). Casa Feliz is located in Central East Austin, which is a transitional neighborhood that gives you quick access to great places to eat, hear music and downtown. Casa Feliz is within a few blocks of the Capitol Metro Rail MLK station and numerous bus stops. Casa Feliz is located in Yellow Cab’s downtown sector so getting a cab is usually quick and a $10 cab ride to downtown. The rental fee includes Sunday NYTimes home delivery.
Casa Feliz is a unique home with lots of color, eclectic/artisan furnishings, and a perfect location for quick access to most parts of Austin such as Town Lake hike and bike trail, Auditorium Shores where the Austin Food & Wine Festival is held, Zilker Park where ACL is held, F1 Circuit of the Americas race track, which in addition to the Formula 1 race also hosts big name acts, and Bergstrom Airport. Casa Feliz is a fun and relaxing vacation rental even if you live in Austin and just want a break from your day-to-day life or celebrate a special occasion. People often comment that they feel as though they are on vacation when visiting.
