We are a boomer couple looking for house sitters for our Hawaii home on the ocean three miles north of Hilo; that’s on the Big Island of Hawaii. We travel a lot and want to have the continuity of the same people on the property for the long term. There is no fixed term to this position; we work on the principle "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". For 2012, we need house sitters from roughly mid-June through Dec. If that term is too long, arrangements can be made to end the house sit in early October. If we find people who really enjoy the arrangement and have other accommodations for the winter when we are consistently in residence, this arrangement could be ongoing for years. Our current house sitters are wonderful and, after two seasons in our home, have decided to move to the area permanently and house sit their way around the south Pacific.
We are looking for home bodies who have a source of income to live on. There is no salary for this position, but the living is good, there's plenty of land to garden, and there are no expenses for the house sitters. Our house sits on a large property one hundred feet above the sea with expansive views of passing ships, breaching whales, rainbows and sunrises. Except for raking up leaves in front of the house, all of the yard work and mowing is contracted out to a commercial service.
We want a strong presence around the property. We seek folks who would genuinely enjoy being in the house, out on the property or at the beach below the property, not adventurers who want to explore the island, though those adventures could certainly be enjoyed when we are in residence. Retired folks, people who work from home or a couple with only one partner who goes off property to work would be ideal
Since we choose to leave our land open most of the time for local surfers to access the ocean, we hope for proactive personalities who are willing and able to enforce our property rules as set forth on our entrance gate. This calls for friendly people who know how to be firm when necessary and call the police for enforcement if needed. House sitters must open our front gate daily at 6:30 AM and lock it up at 6:30 PM.
We are looking for honest, reliable, level headed nonsmokers with no addictions. House sitters need to be dog lovers since our outdoor only dog does good service as a guard dog as does the community dog who hangs around much of the time. Our dog needs to be walked at least once daily. Since we are long past children, we want people who know how to take care of nice furnishings in this highly designed architectural home.
It is important that house sitters be good communicators, especially with us. We are hoping to meet prospective candidates as soon as possible and get an agreement in place. As with any architectural home, there is a learning curve; we would like to live with the house sitters for several weeks to show them how we operate. It would be wonderful if house sitters could move in and live with us in mid May or early June. People with serious interest in this arrangement are welcome to come stay with us anytime to access the project after phone or skype discussions determine a reasonable possibility for a win-win relationship. |
