This home has always been a rental investment for me, renting it out
during the summer months. But 2 years ago I sold my family home in the
next state over, and have "retired" here to "Slower Lower Delaware"
living year round here in a wonderful beach community. I have two cats and a very good cat sitter whom I
normally call when I travel short term. But, because I will be gone almost 6 weeks, I
don't want to leave the cats alone for so long.
I am in need of a house and pet sitter for the month of October, plus a few days on either end. I have two trips coming up that just happen to be back to back, so it looks as if I should just get someone to cover for both trips. I am undecided whether I will come back for an overnite in the middle, but that shouldn't affect anything.
I have a quaint older beach cottage, in the ocean block (150 ft from the beach, just 3 houses back) in a charming beach resort town. The weather during October is my favorite time of year at the shore, because the days are sunny, but getting cooler, and the resort town buzzes with weekend activities and festivals. It is a lovely quiet area, with a wildfowl reserve nearby, lots of bike and walking, and of course, miles of beaches to walk on. The house has a lovely wrap around screen porch, for those warm fall days. The house is really the quintessential beach cottage, and has been featured in a movie because of it's charm. There is a ferry close by that goes to the New Jersey shore, and Washington D.C is about 3 hours away.
In fact, my town has been named on many lists (best places to live, best places to retire to, charming beach towns, best East Coast vacation, world-class beaches, etc). It has a thriving community, with lots of shops, outlets, and great restaurants (we've also been named as a foodie resort destination). Farmer's market on Tuesdays, an Art League, and the usual other cute town amenties are all here. It is about 90 miles from both BWI and PHL airports, about 3 hours from DCA, 4 hours from IAD.
I actually live right in between two beach "downtown areas" -- so both are within walking distance. There is also a trolley that runs between the two towns. Uber, etc is also available. I have a couple bikes that you could use, to get around in. However, the nearest large grocery store is about 2 miles away. I am undecided at this point about leaving a car to use... all depends on insurance, etc.
The main thing is keeping up the house, and taking good care of Cupid and Cotille. They need lots of love and rubs.
You (the house sitter) could come earlier and stay later, if that was necessary due to your travel plans, as you would be staying in one of the guest rooms. If I come back for a quick overnight in between flights (which is doubtful), I'd just pop in and be gone a day later. I am flexible. Please give me a good overview of your housesitting experiences, your interests, and travel plans in your reply. Thank you.
